Since they arrived in 2012, the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo’s penguins have become a visitor favourite! Once again this winter, you can see the king penguins outside of their habitat as they take a royal promenade through the zoo grounds.
Penguin Walk, presented by WestJet, offers the king penguins an opportunity for wintery enrichment as well as additional daily exercise. Up to fourteen penguins can choose to participate in the daily march, including ‘Diana’, ‘Grace’, ‘Solomon’, ‘Cleopatra’, ‘Louis’, ‘Phillipe’, ‘Henri’, ‘Napoleon’, ‘George’, ‘Boudicca’, ‘Rupert’, ‘Arthur’, ‘Alfred’, and our juvenile king penguin ‘Augustus’.
Penguin Walk is dependent on the birds’ desire to walk as well as the weather, but luckily for onlookers, the colony loves to walk and usually chooses to!

The Calgary regional ACFA is proud to announce the holding of the third edition of the Francophone Winter Festival.
The festivities will highlight family values and feature folk music performances celebrating Quebecois, Franco-Albertan, African, Indigenous traditions and Franco-Maghrebian.
The festival offers a variety of family activities, including familly, youth and kids. Additionally, an exhibitor market will allow visitors to explore Francophone entrepreneurs and artisans from the region.
Maple taffy on snow will take center stage, along with other surprise activities that will unveil traditions from various Francophone countries around the world.
On the program:
Indoor and outdoor activities : Ice skating rink, Bubble balls, sumo costume battle, inflatable castle, entertainment for children, activities for young people and families.
Musical and cultural performances : Discover artists and groups highlighting Francophone traditions from here and elsewhere (Quebec, Alberta, Africa, Métis and First Nations).
